Is my car worth anything?
I was just given a black 2002 Lexus GS430. Trying to do my research on these vehicles, but there just aren't many out there like mine. The kicker is the mileage. My car has 345,000 miles. Yea you read that right. I know that the timing belt and water pump were changed around 20k miles ago. The front struts were replaced at that time too. So my question is should I just send it to the scrap yard, or try to part it out, or sell it as a complete unit?
PICS ARE ON SECOND PAGE OF THREAD.

Thats good to hear. I've just always been a little skeptical of luxury cars. I was looking for some reliable transportation, maybe this is it.

Plenty of guys on here with 300K plus with no problems.. I've heard of one or two reaching over 400K with minimal work done. The Lexus GS with the V8 motor is probably the only rare exception to Luxury car Stereotypes.. car is worth keeping if in good shape..

I guess you could call it luck. Or you could call it meddling family members trying to keep me off my motorcycle. I do need a car for the winter though.

I don't know much about these vehicles, but I do know this car is unlike anything I've ever driven. It feels so solid and high quality.

Keep it man. Even with the high mileage I guarantee that as long as you keep up on the maintenance it will hold its value. I'd be willing to bet that ten years from now the value will be the same if not more due to less of them around that were taken care of properly. Keep researching and learning about the car and you'll see what we mean I'm sure. Good luck man.

Scrap yard ...HELL NO!! Keep il the maintenance on her, she'll last another 10 years easy. And your still get a some money for it, as long as there are no major problems with it that need addressed, def keep her...and you would get more money on here parting out but don't do it...

Wow I'd drive that till the wheels fell off, just to see how long that takes! But yah unless you're really strapped for cash, I'd keep it, do the maintenance yourself if you're handy or find someone who can help. At 345k miles I think I'd own it as a badge of honor (sort of, geeky, I know) since mine is at 249k and drives like a champ.
Definitely research and check up on your car's suspension, that is the only thing that was a sort of Achilles heel on the 2nd gen GS, and even then I think on the '98-00 models, while the '01-05 seem to have addressed most of the issues.
Timing belt, water pump, pulleys + cam seals and that's usually all you need in terms of $1000 service. Oil changes and odds and ends should not be too bad. Just don't take her to any of those quicky lube places, I don't hear too many good things about their service and especially their 'factory recommended' engine/transmission flushes.
Get your GS430's front lower ball joint checked out if it doesn't look mushy or clunk already, and beyond that it's just wear/tear items/bushings, and an odd rear control arm or pair, and endlinks. Easy-ish cheap-ish stuff if you know where to look and DIY.
POST A PIC! I want to see what made you think you wanted to scrap it LOL.

I'm actually contemplating a GS400 or a 430 for a 2nd car. I want a coupe so it's a toss up. I like the sport shift, no drive by wire, so leaning more towards a 400, and would be cheaper on insurance. But a G35 is appealing. I'm going to ride my 300 until I can't drive anymore. The GS, it's got to be the best used car you can buy.

Sorry, no one in their right mind would pay $6K to $7K for a GS with that many miles on it. You are probably looking at $2500 to $3500 for trade or private sale. KBB quote is pure BS.
"Oh heck no, that car has alot more life left if its been well taken cared for.. If you need a car, I would keep it, the car is built like a Tank.. still worth atleast $6-7K even with that high mileage..
