I'm gonna bore you with my story.
My first Lexus was a high mileage 92 SC400 that an elderly couple owned. It had around 215k on it when they traded it in at the dealership I was working at and I stumbled across it by pure luck after receiving an insurance check the day before from an accident in my lightly modded TSI Talon.. I didn't know anything about an SC or Lexus and thought they were all boxy four door cars and when the salesman drove it back to my bay and showed it to me and accidentally quoted me a price of 3200.00 (This was in 2003) I couldn't pass it up. That night I researched it and found they were going for well over double that even with high miles, so I went in the next day to pull the trigger and they had it in a row for the auction. After threatening to quit and pointing out how shady it was to screw over one of their own employees they finally sold it to me. The paint was ruff, needles were burnt out on the dash, and it needed a power steering pump soon because it was whining but it was whisper quiet and drove like a new car. About 2 months later on my way into work a deer jumped out in front of me and insurance gave me a full paint job! I began checking out this forum and really got the bug. After owning it for 3 years my buddy bought it off of me and drove it for another year before trading it in... He mentioned to me the other day how he regretted that. I sold it to purchase a GS400 and had to sell it due to some drivers license issues and now I'm back in a GS. Funny thing is I was looking at 97-00 SC300's & SC400's (wanted refreshed exterior/interior) and if the right one had came along I probably would have bought it. Love the body style on the first gen SC and will probably get another one to toy around with, but will keep my GS. The rims were ghetto 3 piece 20" Enkei Hellfire's and I got them cheap used.. I was young and my taste has changed, but I still miss that car!

my experience was that I was actually looking into buying a SC, due to the fact that they were cheaper than GS's. I've always wanted a GS but at the time it was still quite a bit out of my budget. I went to see about 5-10sc's over a few month period but NONE was in decent condition. each of them had faults. either it was rust, timing belt needs to be done, rough exterior, rough interior, sketchy history and for some reason interiors get REALLY ROUGH like worse than beat Hondas rough. Seats all ripped, wood panels cracked, dash needles, clusters, ac don't work.
the interiors feel quality but the thing is they don't last for some reason they were literally the most beat cars Ive seen.
