Default Buying 1998 GS400

Good morning! I am looking at purchasing a 98 GS 400. Is there any specific things I should
look at that are common problems ?

Don't forget to check all the fluids under the hood. See if there are any service records. Check the carfax.

1) Suspension issues (as mentioned above)
2) Door lock actuators
3) Brake/ABS issues
4) HVAC servo motor issues
5) "Normal" used car stuff (remember, the thing is 15 years old)

Get a used car inspection by a mechanic who knows the GS400 and use the findings as negotiation points or to find another vehicle if the problems are bad enough.

Default Compression check?

Just curious folks. What is normally involved in a compression check? How accurate is it? What kind of pricing should I be expecting. I noticed some pre purchase inspection does not always included a compression check.

Just search YouTube for V8 compression check and you can see what it entails. Honestly, if you are provided with proper maint records, it's overkill on the 1UZ. the engine is very durable if treated properly.

If the power steering fluid is low it usually means its dripping and slowly killing the alternator.

A VERY common problem on GS400's with 100,000 or more miles on them.

What is the 1UZ again? I am fairly new. Is that an inline 6 or V8?
