Default Rear subframe rusting???

Has anyone had any problems with their rear subframe rusting out. I'm in the process of swapping my gte into my new gs and my mechanic is suggesting using my rear subframe from my old car. I looked at the one in the new one. There is some surface rust but it doesn't look like anything to crazy. The old gs was in a accident and the frame was bent in the rear. I'm a little skeptical about using the subframe from this car rather than dropping the new one and cleaning and painting it to prevent future rust. Wat do you think? Wild you swap in the one that isn't rusted but may be bent or treat the rust on the current one? I need to know by tomorrow cause that's what we are planning on doing. I think cleaning up the rusted one is a better bet. As I said its not rotted just has surface rust from what I can see. Help
