Blown engine??

$5-700 motors? You guys are lucky or there are no other GS3/IS3's in need of a motor in your area. It's much more than that up here.
They all have the same motor, they all have the same power. I think that because you got a lower mileage motor, the compression is better than your old one and that is why it seems faster/stronger. Seafoam wouldn't hurt it either. Since you say you drive like a grampa, I'd be a little hard on that thing and see if it will hold up, maybe even redline it a few times. I mean, you do have a 90 day warranty.
UPDATE!
So my mechanic found a 2000 engine with about 92k miles on it (I'm told). He replaced the timing belt tuned it and did the installation. For the first week it stuttered a little below 40 mph, then would smooth out. Autozone read the code as a misfiring 3rd cylinder. Took it to my guy and he did the repair. Since then it has been running very smoothly. Since I travel a lot in my job, I'm on my first full tank of gas and haven't compared mileage yet. Looks about the same so far. Did the 2000 engine have more hp? It seems to have a little more power, or maybe it's my imagination. However, so far, so good.
Here's my question. I got a 90 day warranty. Is there anything I should do or try to test this engine before the warranty expires? I've read about Seafoam but never tried it. I drive like a grandpa (I am one!) so I'm not about to race it or rev it real high. What would you do?

That guy is a crook, I got a 2000 gs300 and switched out the engine for a 2005 2jz-ge with 52000 miles that came off a 2005 gs 300 just for 2000. And dropped in the engine in a matter of hours. He also installed a new water pump and timing belt. A must do on these engines. I suggest keep looking around he might just be screwing you over cause he wants the car.
