First i would like to say hi and from what i can see so far this is a great site.

My problem is this:

Last week my car cut out and lost all power......in an auto not a great thing to happen. I managed to pull over and then restart the car to find it was now stuck in what seems to be 3rd gear and drove but only slowly.

I got the car home and left it to the next day and then i disconnected the battery to try and reset the ecu................and now is my real problem as after connecting the battery the car will not start and iv checked the fuses, tried leaving the key turned on for a number of minutes. The starter is turning and i seem to be gettng a slight smell of gas from the exhaust after a few minutes of cracking the engine....................

Any help would be great and thanks in advance

MY 1999 GS 300 CAR WAS MISFIRING I Changed the plugs and car will not start now i checked the battery starter and all the fuses. not sure what it could be plz help =D

I just experienced the same problem with my 1999 GS300. It turned out the be a deal cell in the battery. The old battery would turn over the engine, but it wouldn't start. I checked all fuses thinking maybe the fuel pump was shot. I couldnt hear it getting power until after it replaced the battery..Not sure if that is exact symptom your getting..

I have been having the same problem. I replace the battery and still wasn't running right. The mechanic said the ECU intermittently stops sending power to the fuel injectors.

Does any one know if I buy a used ECU if it needs to be reprogrammed?

A new ECU is around $1,000...
