Sorry for this bump but i'm about to replace all mounts. I'm wayyyy overdue as i'm at 124K miles. I had ordered one mount from sewell (does it matter which location i order from?) but apparently i need a few more. My mechanic told me my car has 4, '99 GS400, but on this here thread i see people saying that there are three (2front, 1 transmission). I'd like to replace all mounts, including transmission. Looking at the Sewell site, i can't tell which are the specific parts i need to order.

If someone could list them that'd be great.

Thanks.

2 engine mounts and 1 transmission mount. Your mechanic needs a 2nd look.

so since i just put a deposit on my LS(x) mounts (although i wont be doing the swap for atleast a year or so) i was wanting to replace my blown engine mounts but i dont think i will install my new PPE headers.....IF im just replacing the mounts what kind of time frame do you think it should take and how much less of a PITA do you think this install would be?

Thanks for all of the great info guys... My driver's side motor mount is broken. (engine is lifting up and out of the engine bay on that side when I hit the gas) I just bought ONE mount, so far. But now after reading all of this- I guess replacing the other engine mount AND the tranny mount would be wise.
I which I had my camera- I'd take pics along the way... ahhhh. WELL- I'll let you know how this goes down!

I get supporting the tranny, but where/how exactly do you support the motor?

You would use a engine hanger if doing from up top or a jack and block of wood on the harmonic balancer if doing it down low.

So the harmonic balancer will/can support the weight of the engine?
It's not like trying to pick someone up by the nose? - lol

(I want to change my oil pan gasket while I'm down there (back bolts-limited access) so lifting by the oil pan would be problematic)

Thanks

Best way would be the engine hanger but if doing it from under the vehicle the balancer is your best option and being that you want to remove the engine pan it is kinda your only option.

Aaahhh.... Ok... I get it. That does look a lot easier than using a bunch of jacks etc.
Did you rent or buy that hanger?

Thanks.

I've had it for a couple of years and with 120k on the gs all 3 mounts were torn. I've been sitting on those mounts for 3 months. Said let me do them and take a pic while I had the hanger out lol.

Nice. The right tool for the job. Do not support the engine from the oil pan to remove the mounts. It will crack the seals at the oil pan and chances are high you will get an oil leak within 6 months after doing this. I want to do this soon to my LS.

It's a nice tool to have and takes up little space once it's in the box. Like I said I had 3 busted mounts so the car feels so much better. Don't know how bad your are but if they are anything like mine were you'll feel the difference. Good luck with yours.
