stock hid ballast swap?
has anyone swapped the ballasts with an aftermarket one and used the stock ballast boxes? (hollowing out the old ballasts i guess. i havent had time to go back in and take those things apart)
pics? i'd like to see what was done
the reason i ask is because i like that location and i dont want the huge hole on the bottom of the headlights. i put my q45 projectors on and i plan on putting the 55w set up in there.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm trying to replace the ballast in my brother's GS400.
I bought this online and thought it would do the trick:
But from what I can gather in this thread, it would be a pain to swap the internals from the stock unit that looks like this:
So my question is, is it possible to swap the internals in the OEM unit? Is there another route that people usually go? What are my options at this point besides buying a brand new OEM unit or used OEM unit? Is there any way I can still utilize the Denso ballast I bought?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: and just to clarify when I say options:
-Don't want to shell out $700+ for brand new OEM
-Don't want to run the risk of buying used OEM not knowing if it will go out again shortly
-Don't want to go aftermarket (DDM, Xentec, etc.)
