Very easy on these cars, I just bought mine last week though and thought i'd take pics along the way since this was the first thing i got to do.


Normally I run Castrol GTX 5w30 with a pure one filter.

The GS i bought had been serviced at the dealership everytime with a Synthetic Blend, i'm not a huge fan but at this point i couldn't decide if i wanted to go to my normal dino oil, or step it up and do full synthetic, so for the time being i just put another Syn blend in. I didn't get to make it to Advance Auto to pick up my Pure one filter so i just grabbed a Bosch Premium filter from Auto zone this time around..

First of course, properly jack your car up on the drivers side, the drain plug faces the other way so it drains best if you jack up the drivers side.

Don't forget to use a jack stand before you crawl underneath your car, i used two because they looked kinda cheap lol

Next use a 10mm socket wrench to remove the plastic panel/skidplate/ air diffuser (whatever you want to call it) to be able to reach the oil filter, you probably only need to remove enough screws to get the oil filter, i removed the whole thing this time for better picture visibility




Next grab your drain pan and get ready to undo the drain plug and let your stank oil out

Normally after everything is drained out i pour a little fresh oil in and wait for that to come back out, just to help push more of the old stuff out.


Put your drain plug back in when your done.

Next find your oil filter, right on the other side of the oil pan.



The last owner had the oil changes done at the dealer, and man they must have put it on super tight and not even lubed it first, I caught hell and didn't have a filter wrench or anything, so i did it the old fashioned way and hammered a Screw driver into the oil filter and used it to turn the oil filter

After you get your old filter off, feel and visually check to make sure the old filters rubber seal did not stick to the motor, it happens sometimes and it's a nightmare so just double check that.

Now grab your new oil filter, dab some oil on your finger and spread it around the new oil filters rubber seal this normally makes it sooo much easier when you have to take it back off next oil change.

Alright lastly pour in your oil, Manual calls for 5.5 qts, i had to use just a little more then that to be level.




After that remove jackstands and lower your car, clean up your mess, I normally let my car idle for a few mins, then turn it off and check my oil a few mins after that.

Just an FYI, there is no level. As long it's between the two dots, the manual says that's ok. 5.5 is all you need. No more.

McKrevice, that's cool i've read some people say 5.5 to 5.8. I just did my oil change based off my dipstick..

cool...but if you wanna save yourself time. do like me....drive to atlanta, rip off your skid plate while on the highway doing 85 and run it over, then next time you change oil you wont have that step to do. lol. j/k....but yeah thats what i did

I've changed my oil a few times in my 2001 GS430. 5.5 yesterday got me to the middle of the dipstick. 5.7 last time was too much and up the dipstick.
