Air Conditioning Problem
hey guys.. i have a 99 GS300 ...
i have been having problems with my Air Cond ever since i got the car .. and my dealer couldn't seem to fix it ..
the problem is the Imbalance Temperature between the Driver Side and the Passenger Side ..
in other words.. when both are set to the temperature .. let's say 25 degrees celcius .... my driver side is giving me cool air (right feeling at about 25 degree) while the passenger side gives me HEAT !
my dealer said even Lexus Canada hasn't heard of that problem before.. and there is only one car other than me that experience the same problem ...
they said they are going to torn out the whole thing (including the center console) and replace the new system for him ..
then they will tell me if it works or not ..
that's soooo STUPID !!!! giving me HEAT at 25 degrees ?!?!?!?

sensor
Are you sure they checked the solar radiation sensors?
At the bottom of the windshield on each side of the defrost air outlet is a solar radiation sensor. If the driver side has failed in a manner (open circuit?) which indicates to the ECU that the sun is shining BRIGHTLY you would have the symtoms you describe.
Or the sun IS shining brightly and the passenger side sensor doesn't "know" it.
Wait! Sorry isn't 25 degrees C fairly WARM?
72 degrees F?

Only cooling....
Your ambient, cabin, air temperature sensor is shorted, an extremely low resistance indicates HIGH cabin ambient and all you will get is cooling airflow except at max heat.
Inbalance....
Your car doesn't know its nightime so if the (failed) driver's side solar radiation sensor indicates a BRIGHT SUN then the system will try to keep the driver's side "cool"

I am still a little confused. What is the solar radiation sensor. How does that ditermine the temp, and why would it need to keep the drivers side cool and the pasenger side warmer.
Right now Its getting warm and I like to keep the temp in my car around 72 degrees. I noticed the drivers side is coming out cool and the pasenger side is just air not cool.

I am just guessing..... from reading some of the posts. This is just a guess.
For disbalance on zones I think this would be the sensor needed.
Lexus OEM Cooler Thermistor (solar)
Item: 88625-50110
available $98.85
When you have to put the temp to extremes to get cool or hot temp, I think this is the sensor you need.
Lexus OEM Cooler (Room Temp. Sensor) Thermistor
Item: 88625-50120
Available $28.77
As soon as someone that knows or has had this issue reads this Please let us know. It is getting very hot and we need to stay cool.
thanks
