Default Big problem...my gas tank door wont open.

Today is the worst day ever. I posted earlier today about my hood not closing. Now when i went to go get gas, the door wont release. I cant open the freakin gas tank door thing. Like when i pull the latch...it just makes a lil click, but nothing budges. My car is on E and i cant fill it up

Is there any emergency release or something? this is really blowin me man.

There is a backup gas release in your trunk. Look around for it.

There could be lots of things going on. The spring on the door cap might have been broken. Try this.

Get someone else to help you. Have him/her hold onto the gas door button, but do not release it. While he/she has the lever pulled out, take a piece of tape (make sure the gas cap is free of dust) and stick it onto the gas cap and try to pull it out. Basically use anything that you can to pull the cap out. Do you get it? Let me know how it goes

One other thing you might want to try ........ I see your in Virginia and the temp is 93 degrees w/ 101 humidity right now! Take a bucket of cold water and drench the fuel cap with it......... Then try opeaning it. My guess is that it's swollen and is crimping when released. Try that and see what happens.

That way you can wash the car also........

It's on the same side that the gas door is on. Hope this works, because that just sucks.

I'm sorry, but when I first read this I could NOT stop laughing. It's really NOT funny especially when your out of gas. I never heard of such a thing before. Hope it all works out with the manual override lever in the trunk.

awesome. I found the emergency release. Thanks guys...def appreciate it. after i manually released, it seems to work fine when i pull the latch under the dash. Im thinking it had somethin to do with what TWQ83 said about the humidity. But in any event...it works now!!! thanks again guys.

Default Follow-up on remote fuel door release

Since more than one of you have found the remote release in the trunk- where is it located? I own a 2016 RC350 FSport & this might come in handy one day...

Well, this is the section for 98-05 GS models, not 2016 RCs. Maybe try their forum. Our secondary release is on the left side of the trunk. No idea where yours is.

Default Same thing happened to me today

Had 16 miles left on gauge(for whatever accuracy that has) and 17 miles from everything except the gas station and home. Googled it and found this very helpful forum. I have a 2007 ES350. The backup latch release is on the same side as the fuel door (left side) there was a small plastic piece in the trunk liner that popped out easily and you can see the latch. When I pulled it the door still didn’t open. I gently used a key...I know I know....to pry it open and it popped open pretty easily. What had happened was that the plastic tether that keeps you from losing the gas cap had popped off before we purchased the car but was still attached to the gas cap. The free end just floats around in that little compartment. This time it got jammed up in the latching mechanism. That’s why it wouldn’t open. I situated the end of the tether away from the latch and closed the door and used the main opener button and it popped open correctly. if you are unsure where your back up latch release is, check your manual. It will show you exactly where and what to look for.

The manual relese should be in the trunk behind the liner. Remove the liner, and you should see the manual release somewhere near the gas door height.

You may not need to remove the liner. In my trunk there is a cut out with a plastic cover right where the release is.
