How easy is it to bend 17's and up rims???
1) I am wondering how easy is it to bend 17's and up rims.
2) Have anyone else bent their rims?
3) What was your remedy (i.e., Repair or Replace)?
4) If repaired a bent rim; how was the result (like new)?
Thanks!

17's and 18's are still very durable,I still hit bumps with my 18's with force on the road and still no bends, but once you get into the 19's and 20's you'll start driving to avoid things on the road.

heres what I understand. You wont crack your rims if you have the following:
A. Good driving skills (dont hit big potholes)
B. GOOD WHEEL (RIM) well built, such as lowenhart, HRE, (basically all the really expensive ones)
C. Series tire. In other words a 45 - 40 is usally put on 17's-18's leaving more rubber to protect the wheel
19-20 usually have 35-30 series.
If you live in a warm state with flat roads and almost no potholes go for 19's - 20's
If you live North in cold states with many potholes. Definetely 17-18's
Hope this helps you out
Oh and if you bend a rim, I would highly suggest you buy a new one, just to be safe.

It's not easy to bend the rims if (1) the quality of the rim is superb. Work, RacingHart, Lowenhart, except knock off. (2) not many potholes in your area (3) don't go to track.
I took my car to tracks some times and my rims are still good as new, except some minor scratches.
My friend bends his 18" 3 times already and he took them to some shop to replace the lips (3pc).
If you repair your rims, obviously it won't be as strong as before so, take good care of your rims.

is there any type of insurance you can get for rims??
I am sure that no one wants to pay $1,000 to replace a wheel, just like no one wants to pay to fix their car when in a crash, just too expensive.
If they had insurance then you could even drive with less worry about bending, etc.
I know that since I ave the stock 17" chromes, my insurance with Allstate covers the wheels since they were factory, but if I were to get 18" or something, I would have no insurance!

well then i would suggest you get the l-sportline rims. I believe they MAY be covered by the lexus factory warranty, so if something happens to them you can get them replaced. I'm NOT POSITIVE on this one, so youd have to check on your own.

The only way that I can think of POSSIBLY getting some money for the bent rims is from the city. You can complain to the city about the pothole and that it ruined your rims. I'm not sure how effective it is but it sure is an option.
