Default Anyone have the stock Dyno numbers for the GS400

I went to SRT's site and they claimed 226hp and 235lb torque. That's basically a 25% drivetrain loss in HP and 22% torque from the manufacture's rating. Is this accurate? Or did Lexus overstate their horsepower and torque readings ala 2001 Mazda Miata?

My personal vehicle dynoed with a 17% drivetrain loss, and a 15% torque loss in torque, although it's not a Lexus, but it appears that most vehicles dyno with a 15-20% loss from the manufacture's claim. I ask because I am thinking of trading in my car and getting either the LS400 or the GS400, so I am not here to start trouble. Please advise...

That's pretty much accurate. The GS400 has about 25% loss. Some members have reported a lesser of a percentage, but when I dynoed my car, it seemed right on the money.

Now go ahead and trade your auto for that sexy Lexy.

If you are even considering the GS, you should get the GS.

Not poo-pooing the LS, but I'm guessing you are hunting for a lux/sport combo - the GS is your ticket. The GS & LS are two different worlds IMHO; I've driven both.

Of course, I may be biased...naahhhh!

Once again, this old topic was brought up. What is the stock dyno number for GS? SRT's number seems to be lower than majority. And stock dyno on Weapon-R is also higher than SRT's number.

Default i think the main cause for the diff is the gear used - SRT uses 3rd

for just about everything I have heard, SRT uses 3rd for their tests. Unknown how much this can account for. However, using 4th can cause a minor error on the torque rating. Because you can't hammer the throttle below 4000 (or it will not stay in 4th), whos to say where the true torque peak is. The first sample on my dyno chart (at 4200) was the highest which makes it likely that a higher number could have been recorded had the throttle been fully opened at a lower rpm.

But, there you go.. YMMV]

Exclamation Some info on dyno

Just to give some background on the dyno I did ans some opinions.

1) The dyno was done at Extreme Motorsports not SRT. Extreme has the first 8 sec DSM unibody. I trust them as a reputable dyno facility.

2) The trans was "modified" to hold third. That's why I've got a smooth graph from ~2000 RPM on up. If you've got shifts while on the dyno the graph will be off because of the torque converter and you'll have to play with the graph by hand to determine where to pick up the graph.

3) It is kinda strange that the highest readings come right near the beginning of the graph (Hmmmm....)

4) I've seen a couple of GS4 dynos now and my numbers seem representative. I agree that I thought it was a bit high on the driveline loss side but....

So perhaps the Weapon-R car had a particularly strong engine in it. Perhaps that dyno is calibrated a little "high". I dunno but I feel pretty good about gs400tx, who is half-way across the country, getting near the same results as me from the dyno at MTI. I lend some pretty high credibility to the numbers since both MTI and Extreme's dyno sync up.

Every car is different so as gs400tx said: YMMV
