Default 2GS all over the place

Just a little story. Typically when I drive home along my 45 minute route, I see none to maybe one 2nd gen GS. They are rare cars here in the Boston area. Last night was different. I was driving right behind another GS430, and there was a GS400 in the lane next to me (two-lane road) for most of the way. We were having a little bit of fun. Close to my home, we hit a patch of traffic. I could see the police lights up ahead, so I thought it was an accident. When I finally drove past the cop car, I saw something that made me cringe -- another 2nd gen GS, stuck in the middle of the road, with its passenger-side front wheel sticking out at a 90 degree angle, with the body resting on the tire. Yup, the dreaded ball joint problem. So my fun of driving with two other GS4's turned into sadness as I witnessed a sick one...

it has happened to several of our members. i think they experienced their issues at like 60-80k miles. i was lucky and lasted over 100k with mine. Just had the ball joints replaced earlier this year.

I wouldn't say the 2nd gen GS is a rare car...especially around here. I see 3-4 a day an there are 2 others in my parking lot at work alone.

I haven't heard of this ball joint problem but it sounds pretty nasty. I'm gonna search up on it as I don't want to be a victim.

I get to see a GS300 about once a week. A GS400 or GS430. Once in the last year. I saw it just last week, to bad I was driving my truck.

The weakest link in the GS. I wonder if they make polyurethane ball joints for our cars

You see 2nd gen GS's all day here in NYC - there everywhere, I've seen em in yellow, baby blue, pink and with all sorts of crazy body kits........ I see a lot in poor conditions, people just dont take care of them , hurts me to see what people do to these beautiful cars these days....

Pav- I will back you up on this. I also rarely see a 2Gen GS400 or 430. They usually turn out to be 300s once I get the chance to pass. I have only seen one other Burnished gold 400 with Spoiler, 17s and HIDs like mine and that's after 8 mos.
I must admit though this board is a wealth of knowledge to making our cars look better and drive better. We get great GB, pictures galore and feedback on just about anything you would need to know. I am glad we don't see many in our area, being different becomes expensive. Just keeping my car washed, waxed and tweaking here and there gets all kinds of props from other people, though I am lightly modded.

Its not really seeing to many 2GSs that bugs me...
ITs the got damn 1 million+ Altimas sold and 1/2 a million 2004+ Maximas sold that bugs me. What was ONCE an original design and shape is now commonplace thanks to Nissan.

If I ride with one more girl in my car and they say "that looks like yours" and they are pointing at a got damn Altima, I'm going to whack somebody and kick her out the car

Wow that is some hang up sick. My 6 and 8 year old girls have never said hey Dad that car looks like yours and it wound up being a maxima or altima.
But they are sharp to point out another GS.
I think you need to screen the ladies before they get in your car, LOL.
