Default Are 225/40/18's okay on my 98 GS w/ 18X8's?

Reason being is I can get a new set of 225/40's for 100.00 new (friend bought for car that was totalled) and I want an all around tire (same size for all 4 wheels).

I'd like to go with 235 or 245/40's but for the $$$ can I get away with the 225's? I think the height will be a little lower than stock and it's about 2% off.

Thanks...

225/40/18 will be little too narrow. U can buy 245/40/18 General UHP for $100 a piece. Best tires i have ever owned

You "can" get away with them but remember with the 17s, 235/45/17 was optional OEM. L-tuned was 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear.

I once posed the question years ago about doing a 225 front (b/c RUF actually goes with smaller front tires than a stock 911 for better turn in response) but the GS is no Porsche!

I can get all four for 100.00... How narrow will they really be? Can't beat it for the money.

And I'm not too concerned with handling or the staggered look because I want the same size all around. It's either the 225/40's for 100.00 or the other tires for 300.00 more.

damn all 4 for $100 go for it, 225/40/18 can fit on a 7"-8" rim easily so go for it

Linke 1SICKLEX said, you can get away with it. It is not optimal but you can decide what compromises you want to take. One of the sizes for the OEM 16s were 215/60 so the 2GS has come with skinnier tires from the factory.

Personally, I would rather pay more for "better" sizes but I will leave you to decide what you want to do with your car.
