Default What do you do when bigger wheels won't fit spare tire space in trunk?

What do you guys do when your new wheels are too big to fit in the spare tire space in the trunk? What do you use for a spare? My LS400 front brakes will not clear the stock 17's - so this is out. Thanks,

Scott

Will it fit if it's flat?

Try letting the air out and see. That ought to solve your problem.

Right?

Get an LS or a TT spare. If you dont have a staggered set up you can switch the front with the rear and put the small spare on the back with the stock brakes.

most use the TT spare or Brandon at tirerack has hooked guys up before with an inexpensive rim that will clear the BBK and fit in the car.

just keep a garbage bag in your trunk. if you get flat, swap out the flat wheel for the stock one and then roll your aftermarket wheel into the garbage bag and put it in the trunk on top of the carpet.

if it's too heavy and it caves in the trunk carpet, you might want to push it back towards the back of the trunk.

Quick note: if your aftermarket wheels take different lug nuts than stock, make sure you keep a set of stock lug nuts in the trunk for your spare tire. Also, make sure you have the stock tire iron and wheel lock key if you're using one IN ADDITION to the aftermarket tire iron that you are using for your aftermarket wheels and lug nuts.

Great advice Clifford. I'm sure there are several out there who have been caught with the wrong lugs for their spare.

Also I like the garbage bag idea. At that point you can just throw the spare in the back seat. This is especially true when travelling with a full trunk of luggage. There might not be enough clearance left in the trunk, so either a tire or suitcase will need to go into the passenger compartment.

Thanks Glen.

Zach and I almost made the trip to EOS WITHOUT our stock lug nuts and stock tire irons (we threw them in 5 minutes before we left) so I just wanted to get the word out BEFORE anyone has to learn this the hard way.
