Battery Light?!
ok.. so when my car is in D or R or any of the gears below D - the battery light will sometimes come on... so I looked it up in the manual and it says "Battery Discharge Light"? what does this mean? It really makes me mad when my navigation unit restarts when the light comes on.. anyone have any ideas on what to do?! i have an optima red top battery, teck kit grounding kit, subs, amp and everything else is factory.. any help would be great.. it only started doing it lately because i never started the car or anything for about 3-4 weeks 'cause i was waiting on tires and such.. and it's been acting like this since.. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

How long have you ran the car since you began using it again? If not long, it should clear up once the alternator gets a chance to charge the battery and take it easy with the stereo until then.

It's time to get things checked out. You can check for tight and clean connections at the battery. A reputable shop can diagnois the alternator and battery for you, usually for free.

The battery light is usually turned on by a difference is power supplie on the two side of the bulb, one from the alt and one from the battery. That light will not come on for a dead or weak battery but if the alt is not putting out its 14 volts you'll see it. Have your alternator performance checked.

You should by one of these at your local Pepboys for 50 bucks. Well, all car guys should.
This unit by Vector is very good. It recharges your battery, tells you if your alternator is good or bad, all digital unit
Here is more on it. http://www.battery-rechargeable-char...-brochure.html

hmm.. interesting.. i'm gonna ask car toys about it.. 'cause it's a new battery and should not be corroding then. in any case if it's the battery then i'll just get a replacement.. lol i hope it's not the alternator.. if it is then i hope it's only $50 for a new one

OK I know this thread is old but I have this same problem on my 99 GS400 now. This happened when I went shopping then when I started the car it had the Discharge Warning Light. I turned off the car and turned it back on and sure ***** it came back again. I even let the car run for awhile too but that was a bad idea since it was draining the battery. Since the car was running straight on the battery I made the attempt and drove home which is about 5miles away and the car died in the garage as I put the car in PARK. So I was even lucky to make it home.
So has anyone ever figured out if it was something else other than the alternator? I dont really feel like spending half my tax return to fix the car.

I don't know about the GS400, but the alternator on the GS300 is pretty easy to change youself. It's a fairly quick job so this also means if you take it to a shop, they shouldn't charge too much to change on the GS300. You can get a rebuilt/remanufactured alternator for about $100. A shop shouldn't charge more than $100 to put it in.
Kharizma, as for your optima red top having corrosion. That's not supposed to happen. I think your battery is defective. The optima batteries are completely sealed and never leak unless something is broken/damaged. You can even run the batteries upside down and the acid should not leak out! Hopefully you can get your batt exchanged under warranty. Good luck!
