Question

Well, I now have my L-Tuned springs and shocks installed and I love them

No L-Tuned badges, no aftermarket exhaust, just a slightly lowered, otherwise-stock-looking GS430. The stealth rocket has arrived!!

It's just what the GS430 needed to firm up the ride and take the float and some of the lean out. For the 3 1/2 years I had my GS400 I complained that it just was too soft but since it was a lease I wasn't about to put the $$ in to mod it up. Finally, I have my car handling the way I've wanted it for years.

Now all I have to do is figure out whether the L-Tuned steering ECU really is different from the GS430 ECU.

Guys I really need your help here. There's so much conflicting information on the program in the GS430 ECU from L-Tuned, my dealer, various Lexus parts managers, Steve Ganz, posts here on the site.

What should I do? Do I spend the $ to install the ECU or save my money?

First of all Marty, congrats on your new L-tuned installation.

Since you are one of the few that got to own a 400 and a 430, I would suggest you go with your own experience. If the 430's steering feels better than the 400 then I would think it already has the ECU inside. Personally I feel that the 430's steering is good enough. If not then upgrade.

Marty,

I think you should:

- go ahead and get the upgrade (mark it)
- do a test drive with the old one on surface and highway.
- put in the L-tuned Steering ECU
- test it on the exact same route and decide if it's any different.

Enough people want to do the L-tuned ECU steering mod AND it's easy enough to put in yourself in 1/2 hour that if you don't like it, just yank it out and sell it.

I suspect you won't have ANY problems selling it for just below cost, which is pretty low anyway (something like $150 if I recall).

Plus, you can help put an end to the controversy!

Perhaps you can ask Steve if you can return it if you don't feel it makes a difference? Install is pretty easy Marty - I can help you if you like.

Also, now both our cars are L-Tuned, if you want to do the comparison drive again, let me know.

If ya don't like it or there's no difference, I'll take it off of your hands. Minus shipping

Default My Plan

I spoke with Bit last night.

He and I are going to install the L-tuned ECU in my car next weekend and compare them. (would have done it this weekend but he's off to the NOPI Nationals so it will have to wait a week).

We, as two analytical types, will compare the ECUs, take copious notes, and report back on our observations.

Jazziz, if I don't want it, the L-Tuned ECU is yours. I've still got the original packaging and paperwork from Carson Toyota.

1SICKLEX, I'd love to show my ride to you. How'd you like to hook up with us next weekend over at bit's place to swap ECU's, have a few beers and take scientific measurements?
