Best 16" Tires ???? Do Hot Ones Exist In That Size???

I have been lusting over 18" HRE's, Lowenharts, etc and I have decided I have to postpone new wheels and tires.
I have the stock 16" Lexus rims with Goodyear Eagle GT+4's (225/55/R16). I will need new tires soon.
A few questions for the wheel maniacs in here:
a) what is the widest/hottest tire you can put on the stock 16" rim?
b) what is the best tire (all season) for that small of a rim .... I want low road noise, decent handling, good dry and wet traction
c) how many miles should I expect to get out of the tires?

I'm not one to be considered a wheel maniac, but I could at least answer half of number one. The widest tire that you could put on there is already answered: the width of your current tire.
