I have a 2001+ Wood Steering wheel from a GS300 w/ E-Shift and the 2001 RX300 airbag combo on my 1999 GS400 w/ E-shift..complete bolt-on. I have an opening on the left side of the wheel were the stereo controls are supposed to be located (my wheel did not come with it) so that will have to be blocked off or the control added to the wheel,

If you want the anatomical "bulges" at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock of the oem wheel, plus the new airbag with the chrome Lexus emblem in the center this is your only option at this time. The RX300 wheel will also bolt on but for 98-2000 GS cars you must use the RX 2001 single stage airbag. The air bag is definitely the more expensive piece since you are looking for a specific year; RX wheels are on E-bay all the time. 2001+ GS E-shift wheels are much more difficult to come by; especialy with the optional wood trim.

for the airbag connectors, can you share some information on whether it's plug and play or you have to cut and connect some wires?

plug & play homeboy ! no mods, no cuttin', no solderin'....nada. bolt the thing on and be off.
single connector for single stage airbag...same connector as original airbag from 98-2000 GS.
You MUST use the 2001 RX300 airbag for this....it has a specific part number ; 45130-48040-C0....tho be prepared to spend some seroius bank if purchased new ( $800.00 list).

The factory wheel/airbag combo when installed on 98-2k GS looks exactly like a 2001+ GS300 with the optional ( $300.00) wood wheel/shifter with E-shift. The only thing missing on my car is the stereo/nav mode controls that are mounted on the wheels left side. I am currently working on setting this control up to handle a mp3 player I use in the car.

If you don't need the E-Shift controls just use a RX300 wheel.

i got a gs4 so i guess i will go with the same setup you do then. down the road, down the road.... gotta work on the details now i guess... umm.... i actually don't really need the wood, maybe that will make things a bit easier. and it's good to hear that it's plug and play

and boy, having thsoe audio control would be nice! i always love to adjust audio on the steering wheel!

just keep your eyes open on E-bay. my own personal 2 cents........this makes the interior really standout. just look at a 2004 GS brochure for the interior shots....wow.

good luck

I put an SC430 wheel on. Still a 3 spoke and wired E-shift to menu Up and Down. I have these a few of these wheels and bags if any one looking.

Took the wood off an RX wheel and glued it on to the GS wheel. Re did the leather.
But I like the IS wheel mod better. The stereo controls and the paddle shifters make it worth while. Plan to do the IS mod in the near future.
