2JZ GTE VVTI Cam Seal Job
So i have a buddy with a JDM 97 Aristo(GS300) with the 2JZ-GTE VVTI. Now we have noticed a common leak on the motor from the cam seals and solenoid oring. I ordered the parts and have them.
Now before i start this job, i wanted to see if anyone here has done this job and could let me know how straight forward it is. Im assuming i just have to take the valve cover and timing covers off and then put motor to TDC and remove cam gears and solenoid and then replace seals and reassemble and re align timing marks to re time it.
If anyone has some knowledge to shed on this topic it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Curious as to how deep one needs to go on this project.....can you remove the cam gears by sliding them out after the tensioner is removed? Or do you have to remove the crank pulley and take off timing belt also...?

You can leave the crank pulley on but id recommend removing it to replace front crank seal. Just make sure you get the belt lined up right before reassembly then 2 full rotations by hand slowly then recheck alignment.

Just to be absolutely clear.....can cam gears be removed by just removing the top timing cover and tensioner.....without removing the bottom cover and then the belt....I'm afraid removing crank shaft pulley etc. is a little too much to attempt...?

Yup....100% sure now....camshaft seals are accessible without all the extra work of taking crank bolt off...
Still have leaking camshaft seals though...second set....used Timken....shafts look clean and free of wear/defects....used some Indian sealer this time (per some advice) any advice?
