Need a new alternator, any tips?
I ws driving home and my battery indicator light came on. When I got home I left the car on and unplugged the battery, sure enough my car died. I left it alone for that night. Well today i tried to turn the car on and it did crank up, then it pretty much turned right off. I think I need a new alternator, Any tips getting it out will help out.
Thanks,
Sismo

You shouldn't be pulling the postitive cable off while the car is running. It sends a shockwave through the car and 'could' damage components like the ecu. The alternator is held on by one bolt and a nut. Very easy.

I had the same problem. what you can do is change the brushes and see if that works. brushes are way cheaper than buying an alternator. make sure you check the rod were the brushes touch. there should be no cracking were the brushes touch. i put new brushes in my alternator and worked fine. for a day. i had to take it apart again, and there is were i found missing parts of the rod were the brushes touch.
