The platform? If your looking for 1 platform your not gonna find it..the first gen GS300 ran from 93-97..98 and 99 are different models. If you mean platform like what toyota car did it come from? It didnt come from another car, its a design all its own. If you want the chassis code..JZS147..I think.

So, when the GS300 went from the 1st generation to the 2nd generation in 1997, the platform also changed? If so, what was the name of the platform of the 1st generation? and what was the name of the platform for the 2nd generation?
the JZS140 and JZS147 might be right, but that seems like an odd name for a platform by Lexus (For instance, they call the platform for the LX 450 a "Land Cruiser" Platform). In no way am I comparing the two platforms, but it seems odd that the platform names would vary that much in style. Keep in mind, my way of thinking about this could be completely wrong, so feel free to steer me in the right direction!!!!

Like Kaiser said, the JZS140 is the US Chassis code because it doesnt come with the 2JZ-GTE, also very few other differences from the Japanese Aristo. The code for the Second gen like Seize said is JZS160 and JZS161.
Im not if you know what your asking by asking what the platform is. When companies say platform they are usually referring to another car that the car they are making(or made) is based on. Like for instance, the ESs platform is the Camry, its a sedan, FWD, and if you look, the camry and ES bare a striking resembalance(sp?).
I hope this helps.

They are the same exact car though, and the Aristo wasnt based off another Toyota platform.
I can see where you could say the GS is based off the Aristo seeing as the Camry came before the ES and the first gen ES was pretty EXACTLY like the Camry of that period, except with leather.
But, Unlike the ES, the Aristo was only around for 2 years before they released the GS in America. I still dont know why they didnt release it as a 91 here, I mean, the LS and ES were doing pretty good.
So, if you put it that way, then yes the GS is based off the Aristo platform, but the Aristo was never offered in America from Toyota.

My 91 aristo is a JZS147
I think I get where you are coming from though. The new shape mini and the landrover freelander are both based on a 3 series Beemers underpinnings AFAIK. Alot of manufacturers take an existing "PLATFORM" and tailor it to fit a newer body to keep costs down. Bear in mind in Japan toyota had loads of different models of cars that never saw their way out of Japan that the GS could have been plonked on top of. The fact that the aristo has so much in common with the soarer and the MK3 supra would point in that direction for me.

I am sorry I meant to say TOYOTA CROWN
"The Lexus GS is a series of mid-size luxury sports sedans / executive cars sold by Lexus, the luxury division of Toyota. The first GS, based on the platform and running gear of the Toyota Crown, was introduced in 1991 in Japan and two years later in the United States, Europe and selected markets in Asia. The GS was designed to fill the gap between the ES and LS and to provide Lexus with a sports sedan that could compete with the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The second generation model premiered in 1998."
