Default instrument panel light

have any of you ever noticed the lights on your instrument panel dimming as you accelerate? I'm talking about the very top of the instrument panel located above the speedometer. I'm driving home from work last night and as I accelerate I notice the blue tint light at the top of the instrument panel dims... let off the accelerator and the light brightens back up... switched the car over to "sport" and give it the gas... light remains constant, no dimming what so ever... switched back to "norma".. give it a little gas and the blue light at the top of the panel dims.... car seems to be running absolutely fine, no issues that I'm aware of... but I've never noticed this before.... and curious as to why it only dims when the car is in " normal ", but not when it's in "sport" mode and the light on the dash is red....

That's weird. I've noticed mine dimming and brightening up in response to outside lighting, there's a light sensor at the base of the windshield for this.

I notice that long ago. It tells you how fuel efficient you currently are. Higher instantaneous MPG, brighter the light and so forth....

It is perfectly normal. The blue illumination decreases when you accelerate because you're using more fuel. When you coast you're using almost no fuel, thus bright light indicating fuel economy.

Yup. You can change it in the settings to stay all blue if you like. I turned the blue light off entirely.

And it's red on Sport setting, at least on the hybrid.

Thanks Guys.... glad to know it's a normal thing... still curious though why it only does it when it's set in "normal" and does not do it while it's in "sport" setting..... doesn't really make a difference since I know there's nothing wrong with the car.... appreciate your replies..

If you're in "Sport" mode, you're probably not concentrating on fuel efficiency. At least that's my take on it.
