Hi Guys,

I recently acquired a 2007 ES 350 (non-nav) from my uncle's estate. I've got a few questions regarding it, as I've never owned a Lexus, and there are some concerns I'd like to discuss.

First, The hood begins to lift at 65+ MPH or if there is a significant crosswind. The hood isn't "flexing" per se; it's more about staying straight but rising and dropping violently. It almost appears the hood will pop open at any moment at highway speeds, but the hood lock catches it. It appears air is getting under the hood and forcing it up and down. It's very concerning as I've never driven a car with similar issues. The issue is not noticeable at lower speeds, like on US and state routes.

I took it to the local mechanic, who had done preventative maintenance on it previously. He said he adjusted the black rubber adjustable stops (I'm unfamiliar with their actual name) on each side to their lowest height to bring the hood closer to the engine. The problem persists. Could the front seal and fastener be worn, thus causing the issue? Do you think the hood is misaligned with the front bumper (it looks like the headlight assemblies were replaced at some point)? Could the hood microswitch/lock assembly have too much play and not hold the hood as firmly as it should? What would you recommend?

I plan to take it to a reputable body shop in my area, but I would like to be as informed as possible about likely culprits.

Sounds like it may be a problem with your hood latch. With the hood latched shut try to lift it and see if there is play. You should not be able to get your fingers underneath it to lift it up.

That is the main problem. The rubber adjustable stops should go as high as possible while you are able to close the hood. The hood has go be tight, not towards the engine but towards up.

On the driver's side, I could get about half a finger under the hood and lift. I definitely noticed a bit of play. The picture I've attached may not show much, but in-person it was noticeable that air could also get under the hood and create lift.





I've also included a picture of the hood latch. It looked like some rubber significantly deteriorated. If the hood latch is the likely culprit, what remedies may I have to correct the issue?

You need a body shop to adjust it. they do this all the time. It should take them a few minutes to align it properly.
