Moon Shell Mica explained, maybe?
When we bought our '08 ES a month ago, we both noticed the color was called "Moon Shell Mica" and I finally did some research on it, as neither of us had heard of a moon shell. Turns out that a moon shell is also called a "Tiger Eye" shell by some folks in Florida, and we had several in our shell collection from Florida trips.
So I took our shells out of our collection and compared them to the ES's color. Wow, you can sure see where Lexus got that color from. All the subtle combinations of beige, mauve, & purple are actually part of a moon shell's natural color(s). Although maybe Lexus went a bit over-the-top on the pink/mauve.
You will have to trust me on this, but the colors of the shells match the car's color MUCH better in real life than this photo, or any other I took. The match is amazing!
Here's a photo, taken in the shade in the garage. The winter sun here in Colorado is too far to the South for a good photo--I tried, but they didn't come out good outside. Anyway, you'll get the idea.
