VAIS in 2008 ES350 with Nav
I am new here, we just got our 350 and I think this is the friendliest Lexus site I have found.
I did search the following questions unsuccessfully.
Has anyone in Canada ordered the VAIS VML unit? How did it pass customs?
Was duty exorbitant? Would I be better to use a US address?
Second, we removed the ashtray in our 350 and set the iPhone/iPad in the hole. I looks like an iPhone/iPod doc would fit in the hole.
Has anyone tried this installation? Was it successful?

Here's a link to a discussion on Vaistech iPod adaptor installation. There are others, as well; just search on "iPod".

Regarding duty, the maximum duty is 8%. That, combined with HST is the total amount you'd pay. I have items shipped to a US address and bring items across myself to avoid brokerage charges. Often, they charge minimum fees of $50 - $75 which makes importing relatively small value items very expensive. So it's easier to bring it across yourself.
Sometimes, though, Canada Post simply delivers small items without collecting any tax or duty. It just shows up and I never get charged. I don't know if this is an oversight on their part or a materiality issue, but it's unpredictable. Which is why I usually use a US address and bring it across myself.
Feel free to send me a PM if you have any other questions.

Thanks MWR, I saw that and other threads for installation.
My question is whether anyone has tried to install an iPod/iPhone doc station, usually little white device, cable plugs in the back and iPod/iPhone on the top. No cords hanging about and iPhone is easily accessible when leaving the car.
I tried the doc today and it seems to drop in Ok so I am going to try it when I do the installation.
