Yes they do, but the tuning is different, and the HP a wee bit lower. The Lexus is tuned to run on premium.

My thoughts exactly!

There's been a lot of discussion on this subject. FWIW the owners manual says unleaded with an octane rating no lower than 87 may be used. Premium unleaded achieves the advertised 272 hp. As mentioned, you can't go worng with either.

^^^^Huh - Funny, My Wife's '08 ES Owner's Manual Reads:

Use unleaded Gasoline (91 Octane rating [Research Octane 96] or higher)

Seems pretty plain to me.

Therein lies the question. Try page 394 (unless the manual is off a few pages between '07 and '08) and not so clear.

^^^^Actually in the '08 manual it's page 412 that has the second reference. It says the same thing as the first. The inside of the gas door also says the same thing.

Interesting! Then they changed the manual from '07. I've run 89 in mine since after break in, for 2 1/2 years, and can tell no difference in mileage or performance. But...with these gas prices it's back to premium baby!

With, again, no difference.

I don't care about the hp either. Whether it's 260 or 270, that's more than plenty for this car.

However, if the gas mileage drops and it becomes a wash financially to go from 87 or 91, then I'd err on the safe side and not risk premature wear on the other parts. I mean, seriously, the cost is barely noticeable unless you rack up huge miles every week. I noticed this very distinctly when gas prices were through the roof. Premium on this car was much cheaper than regular on my truck cuz the gas tank is smaller on this car (ignoring the actual mpg btw the two cars cuz it's irrelevant to this discussion). 10 or 20 cents a gallon over 14, 15 gallons is just a couple of bucks. Since it's equaled out by the lower mileage, financially it shouldn't matter to you whether you use regular or premium anyways. You're paying it out anyways. However, replacing an O2 sensor and whatnot early is money you wouldn't have to spend if you went with the stuff those sensors were designed for. Seems kinda dumb to wear stuff out early and not get the hp benefit when you don't have to.

Default High or Low??

Good point......the engine is optimized to run on high octane fuel...I just couldn't see myself going with anything else...I think I would worry too much about it...afraid I may cause premature engine failure....Toyota is a good car...but Lexus I believe is in a different class in every respect....If gas goes up again...let's hope it doesn't....(wishful thinking)....I would still fork over the extra cash...but everyone is not in the same situation though....

I don't think the OP has been back here. Wonder what he/she ended up using?
