Actually, I can see people messing up a 1996 A6 and a 2000 VW Passat (front end). But if you mean the ES/Camry is more similar than other siblings, then yeah. But I do believe the new ES350 is the furthest it's ever been in terms of design from the Camry.

1sicklex, I think you just mean Sentra vs. Maxima... they all have that bucktooth grille haha.

Owned a 99 ES300 and to me, it didn't look like a Camry but the family resemblance was too close for comfort. The newest ES, the ES350 is more closely in the Lexus family than all the previous models. Thenew ES is all Lexus. Camry is nice but all Toyota. Now they look apart and growing more apart with each model. Hooray!

Umm...I have a 06 es330 and it looks nothing like the 06 camry..if anything i think the 07 es and camry are probably the most similar the es and camry been.

1sicklex.......the exterior of Acura TL and Honda Accord look nothing like each other. I have a harder time distinguishing the TL from the TSX from the front.

Now look at the 07 camry and ES and tell me which models look more similar? The back end of the 02 camry is totally different than the 02 es!

Someone who won’t drive an ES350 because it resembles a Camry is like someone who won’t go out with Cameron Diaz because she resembles a girl who works at the local Burger King.

I love my ES350 and don’t care that it has some things in common with another fine car.

I really get a kick out of the different perceptions in this thread. One guy says that the '07 Camry and the '07 ES are the furthest apart in styling that the two cars have ever been. Then a few posts later, someone else says the two cars for 2007 are the closest in styling as they've ever been....lol.
As for myself, I don't really care one way or the other. I drive an older ES, the warranty for which has long since expired. Therefore, what I like about the similarities in the two is that most of the mechanical parts are interchangable between the Camry and the ES and buying Toyota parts is usually much cheaper than buying Lexus parts...even though they have the same part number!

You might want to be a bit more specific w/ your Maxima/G35 comparo comment--the G35 is not entirely a clone of the 350Z. The G35 coupe perhaps, but not G35 in general...not unless there is such a thing as a 350Z sedan.

Could the Maxima be considered to be more closely related to the G35 sedan or the M35? I would think the G35 sedan, since the M35 does cost a bit more than the G35.

The '07 Camry and '07 ES 350 may very well look similar in appearance, but IMHO it is not too difficult to distinguish between the two--the aforementioned front grill...plus the headlights (Camry has slightly slender and wider housings); also, Camry side mirrors are attached to the window at A-pillar corner...whereas ES 350 side mirrors are mounted directly on the outer door panels themselves (anyone know why Lexus went this route w/ the side mirrors on the ES 350?).

Want to hear something funny?

The sales staff told me it was to reduce wind noise at speed!

There's a word for this. I think it's called "irony."

LOL

So we skip to Nissan, the Maxima is on the same platform as the Altima and Murano,

Then the 350Z, G Sedan & Coupe and FX share a separate platform, 1 platform is FWD and the other is RWD/AWD

The Camry and ES do have similarities they are in the same family, when you take the body of 1 car and then wrap 2 different style skins around them they will have similiar angles, I like both but would always take the ES

Cool

Who gives a ****? An '01 Accord looks identicle to a BMW from 3/4 of the angles you can possibly view the car from.
And the maxima and I30 platforms always looked just as the same as the Camry / ES. Just like a Buick always looks like a caddy, always looks like a bottom line crappy chevy.

Atleast the I30 got a LSD where the maxima didn't. Then again, Toyota designs equal transaxle setups that don't have torque steer like Nissan does.

I heard from someone who works at a Toyota/Lexus dealer that the Lexus parts are higher in price for almost everything.

Mechanically the Camry and the Es350 are identical.

I wouldn't go so far as saying they're identical. I would say that some parts are identical, and other parts are similar.

i am going to test drive a V6 2007 camry to satisfy my curiosity. they cant be THAT similar because Lexus just feels nicer overall. Im sure the ES is more quiet, cushier and slicker than the camry. Plus many options are exclusive for the ES. I believe HD lights, sun shades, ML stereo, and glass roof are Lexus-only options.
