Very good question, I was wondering the same. Radar/laser detection is not 360deg, both front/back sensor/detector have to face the road. Before I returned my radar detector, I was playing with different positions and found only suitable when it was mounted on top of the dashboard in the middle which is too ugly and ruins the dashboard look...

I recall reading some V1 instructions (or some test or something) that said the optimal position for the detector was high up on the front glass, pointing directly forwards, not pointing downwards at all.
From the V1 website: "Detector performance is enhanced by a high mounting
position. Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot."
Other V1 reasons listed to not mount it low:
- It's equivalent to a low 'tower position'.
- High mount has an advantage as it can see through vehicle windows in traffic around you.

With the V1 detector the up down adjustment can be altered by sliding the detector in and out of the suction cup bracket. I positioned it so it is facing directly down the road. The unit is still below the top tint line so no interference occurs there. So far reception seems to be optimal.

Has anybody using a radar detector inside of their ES350? I really don't want any hanging cords in the car, so just curious what do you guys use and how do you manager the power cord? I just start doing on-line research and found a few cordless battery operated radar detectors. Anybody using one of those?

My wife uses a radar detector in her 05 ES 330, but I haven't put one in mine, even though she has Nav, it still doesn't look bad, but I just don't want any wires hanging over my screen, it's a personal choice.
