98 Lexus Es300 Valve Cover Gasket Leak - Smoke?
Hi,
I just bought a 98 Lexus Es300. Great car, but there's some smoke coming up at the rear of the engine at times and smells kinda like burnt rubber. The valve cover gaskets do look like they are leaking. Is it possible that smoke from the rear of the engine could be the valve cover gasket leak? Would it smell kinda like burning rubber?
Ya, I know my handle is volvo_dude, just sold my Volvo and got this Lexus.
Thank you!

yes. basically. but if your summation was correct it would smell like oil burning. But, you still might be right about the cause and mistaken about the type of smell.
To actually see you would need the car in the air, and look from underneath.

1. Shampoo the engine.
2. Once dried, jack up and secure the vehicle on jack stands.
3. Start the engine.
4. Crawl under the engine to see where the oil is leaking from....
