So my 97 es300 has been in the shop most of the year. No one knows what's wrong with it. It will run fine and then the check engine and abs and traction light will come on and the car will run EXTREMELY bad. If I shut the car off and restart it it will stop. The code it throws is a misfire on #3. I have replaced spark plugs, wires, coil, you name it. The shop said the computer must be bad. I sent the computer in to be looked at and they said it is fine. So lost here. Please help

perhaps the engine wiring loom is damaged. or there is a bad earth connection between the motor and the body.

My guess is that the main sensor power supply is randomly shutting off, the engine will still run but all hell would break loose, throwing codes and then it would be completely fine the next time the car is started. The computer would not be able to understand a complete loss of essential sensors, and them being restored again in the space of a few seconds, so if something is loose it would not adapt well to that at all, it would just think 'oh ***** everythings gone **WARNING** ***WARNING** but it _would_ recover the next time it's started if everything was restored.

I wonder if the plugsin the engine bay are so heat damaged they are disconnecting or shorting out. Sometimes they look fine but the insides are flakes of plastic.

Have you changed the no. 3 injector?

.. thats a damn good idea, it could be fuel.

I checked the resistance of the injectors and they all red 13.6 except number 3. It red 48. I'm guessing its bad
