Hello! This is my first post on the forum so let's see how it goes. I have also never done repairs myself. I'm buying the materials to fix my issues and my dad, car genius, will help me do the actual fixing. I only will have this car until August when I go off to college and I'm working off a part-time job budget if that makes it easier to narrow down buy/fix ratio.

Three things I am trying to fix:

1. The A/C controls are half burnt-out; the lights only turn on with some of them.
2. I want to remove the navigation system and install a more recent radio (Aux plug, etc.).
3. I want to get the key fixed.

I read somewhere that the sound system (Mark Levinson) requires a "converter" that I have to buy in order for it to work with any radio.

Regarding the key, I did get the battery replaced and it did not fix it (I tried using the method of turning the car on-off 8 times in ten seconds and a few other ways to "reset/reprogram" the key). I'm assuming I will have to order a new circuitboard (something like that?) for the key to work remotely.

These seem like pretty common questions/repairs but in my searching I've only found answers for other years or models and I think I'm just bad at forum-searching. If I'm asking questions that are already answered, perhaps you could link me?

Suddenly my Lexus ES300 started displaying a message on the NAV screen saying to "check the map DVD to make sure it is correct" or something along those lines... It will show the map for a second sometimes before it cuts to this message. I am hoping that it is NOT the DVD reader (i tried a lens cleaning disc...to no avail) and maybe it just needs a new disc? Can anyone tell me if this is the case? Thanks!
