I would shoot for an ES330.

Go for the 05-06 ES330. Its worth the initial purchase price for small upgrades like newer headlights, tail lights, cooled seats, steering wheel controls and the 3.3L engine.

Reliability wise there are no issues with the power-train. Parts are cheap and plentiful because they can be sourced from the Toyota Camry parts bin.

The only drive-ability concern is the aforementioned throttle and transmission lag, so be sure to test drive the car thoroughly before purchasing. This is the single gripe I have with my ES330 that I'm reminded of every time traffic slows to a stop-and-go crawl.

The interior of the ES330 is IMO the nicest, highest quality, most luxurious and plush of all ES's.

The 3.3L engine can feel pretty powerful when punched: 240lb-ft of torque is reached at a much lower 3600 RPM, compared to 248lb-ft at 4700 RPM for the 3.5L 2GR engine in the ES350, and 220lb-ft of torque at 4400RPM for the 3.0L 1MZ ES300.
