1997 Es300 Catalytic converter
Hi all,
The flex pipe on my car is leaking big time. However it's been cut out once and replaced before, so I need to change the whole front pipe (down to the catalytic converter). I'm having a hard time finding the part. It is a FED/Canada emissions and the car is built in Japan (vin starts with JT). I've seen many variants of the front pipe with catalytic converter that come with 2 flex pipes, and some that have 1 flex pipe. The current one on my car has 1 flex pipe. One parts guy told me that its a dual cat, and there shouldn't be only 1 flex. While others said the correct version has 2 flex pipes. Does anyone know which one is the correct one for this car?
Thanks,
Nav.

I purchased the magnaflow pipe for mine...the fitment was okay, but be prepared to remove the bottom bracket as it will not fit with it installed. Also, every stud that bolted to the pipe broke, so buy new exhaust manifold studs ahead of time. Your studs may be okay, my car has over 400k miles (I kid you not), so my studs may have been a little fatigued. Good luck!

FWIW When I had to replace the engine in my Ca 98 ES I got a donor from a FED 96 ES and the collector pipes out of a Fed 98 Camry. The flanges fit perfectly and I had the pipe cut off as close to the cat as possible. Then I just had to cut off my pipe I cut it about 8" back from the first hanger and there the Camry pipe fit over the inner wall and under the outer wall of the Lexus exhaust perfectly. Then I welded it up and presto. It was way less money then replacing the cat at only $25. Not to mention if you cut the upstream cats out you can sell them on ebay for scrap platinum recovery for about $60. So it's like getting paid to fix your own car.
