Weird case with door lock latching but door not locking securely?
hi guys, just joined the forum...
today i noticed a weird problem with the lock of the driver's car door...
the central locking is working fine
the physical ****/latch inside the car door moves to the lock position
but if i lift the door handle from outside, the ****/latch will come undone inside
and if i lift the door handle again the second time, the door opens...
any idea where the problem lies?
haven't seen this happen with a car door before, and don't know where to search...
appreciate any help, thanks...

'94 es300, right? (more responses if you put this in your post). Assuming yours works like my '93, could you answer the following (this might uncover a linkage issue in the door):
- With the key in the drivers door, turning the key toward the front locks all doors?
- With the key in the passenger door, turning the key toward the front locks all doors?
- Turning the key toward the rear in the drivers door once unlocks only the drivers door?
- Turning the key toward the rear in the drivers door twice in succession unlocks all doors?
- Turning the key toward the rear in the passengers door once unlocks all doors?
- With the key in the ignition, drivers door cannot be locked using the button?

oops.. i thought the info would be listed already as I entered that when I registered... yes it's a ES300..
I've done all your test, and it's yes for all those...
to clarify... even if i lock the doors with the **** being in the locked position, i can "undo" it by lifting the outside handle then the **** will come undone to the "unlocked" position, after which I could open the door by lifting the outside handle again...

Well, time to take off the door panel and observe what happens when you lock the door(s) and then lift the outer handle. When the door is locked, by any method, the handle is supposed to be 'disconnected' from the rod that couples the latch to the lock button. Inside the door, there are 2 rods connecting the latch to the lock button, one for the lock button, and one for the inside handle. Something is f***ed up at the latch end of the locking button rod. Do you need help on door panel removal? If you do, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es3...moval-diy.html
