Default Air Conditioner leaking SC400

Hi,
I am new here, just registered, thank you everyone for this forum, I have no more hope for my AC and I am about to sell the car (my hubbys car), Oh well, let me tell you what's going on.

The car was parked for the last winter, once started to run again the AC had stopped to blow cold air, the windows wouldn't move up or down, and the seat didn't move back or forward, we live in a small town, nobody really wants to spend any time in a Lexus, I couldn't even find someone willing to fix the seat or the windows, got several "no" over the phone.
Finally found a refrigeration business to refill the gas, $120 for 2 lbs of gas, and for what they told me should last for a long time, 3/4 weeks later wouldn't blow cold air anymore ... leak.
Took again to the place where I had refilled at first, but nobody cold find where the leak is, as I said, small town, the guy has a refrigeration business, not an auto shop, and he was really nice, spent a lot of time working on my car and didn't charged at all, he suggested that I would take the car to another place where they have something like a die (If I understood correctly) and a black light where they would be able to track the AC system and find the leak, I was so upset that the only thing I heard was "might cost you $1.000 bucks" WHAT??????

So, here I am, 90 degrees outside, stuck with a black car, can't roll the window down, can't pull the sit up close to the sunroof where I could get some wind, leather seats, AC broke, according to some, over a $1.000 to fix ONLY the AC Itself, there's more window and seat to fix, in a car that is worth It $3.500 or less the way It is,
Does anyone have any suggestion, advice, anything ...? Is this person right saying that this is the only way to find the leak?
Appreciate any help,
Gives me nausea just thinking I will have to drive this car tomorrow to work again , I feel like am in a frying pen, sauna, pressure cooker and I am not being dramatic.
Any light help, I need to fix this without going broke,
