better syncros... I scoff at that... first to second is a piece of cake compared to some cars. besides, more syncro, slower engagement... so in performance situation.... :>
...oh that right... 1mzfe doesn't find itself in that situation....

llcoolpass, sometimes you need the stronger tranny on the Camry.

'94 Camry in 1st around 50whp since since I took that), and '00 Solara in 2nd.

I did some internet readin' and and coincidences matches up with this thread and so on and anyway... here 's some info that will tickle thou:

the e-153 is the same thing as saying e-53, apparently.

also, the transmission in the 97+ 1mz-fe camry is the same as the 93 camry 3vz-fe, and most likely in 1993 ES 300s as well. I'm sure there's some production date or # cutoff for which cars got the transmission.

ellaborating, 1993 , and 1997+ 1mzfe apparently have e-153 with a better syncro on the third gear. 1997+ models with e-153 have [much moreobvious] different gear ratios on certain gears but the transmission itself is identical otherwise.
then apparently, the transmission [after the manual option was dropped in camry] came back various points in other toyotas.

i'm trying to do my own first source research on this rather than take word of mouth and ''toysrme'' for granted.

if this is true, then my '93 tranny might just be the improved version [extra third-gear syncro ]

edit:
the 1993 FSM says that 3rd gear, E-53, no mention of revisions other than that it is based on the E-52, has two syncros

the lexus specifications thing agrees with the FSM as far as final drive ratio [they rounded up to hundredths place in specs brochure]
this number, 3.625 differs from toysrme claims. He is saying 3.933. I believe the 3.933 is only found in USDM "1993 Toyota Camry SE".

at first i though the gearing was bad in the es 300. but after running it through thes oftware, its clear that it was smartly designed for the dragstrip and the cars weight and other characteristics. gearing is all about purpose and its clear , from a stop, to max speed, the gearing is pretty dead on. substituting the 3.933 in the program, the car does get a little bit quicker, so it seems, they coudl easily have done that. why didn't they , who knows? the 1/4 mile time goes down 2 tenth with the SE ratio in a es 300, the trap speed down, though, too by a bout 1 mph. positively, the 0-60 drops by .2 second. i used the mod info that bring the 3vz-fe up to its normal potential [200 hp @ 5800 RPM 204 lb*ft @ 4600 RPM], and a really good shifter at the helm.

a stock es 300 5spd has the following acceleration numbers

again, stock everything, only difference, the power and torque of the [world market] 1994 and later 3vz-fe via the cog and timing modification.

3582 lbs with 1 person[driver] in it
6600 RPM redline
nice day room temperature etc
im still working on exacting these figures and will updatethem. trying to get the tire effective diameter perfected. things like tire pressure and weight and speed are making it hard. seems like the RPM - speed figures are good though so far.

on a drag strip dumping the clutch, here's what you would [probably] get:

0-60 mph 7.2 sec

15.8 sec @ 90.6mph

1 minute 135mph

140 mph top speed

shift pts:

1st to 2nd
6600 RPM 38mph
2nd to 3rd
6600 RPM 66mph
3rd to 4th
6190 RPM 96mph
4th to 5th
6110 123mph

dont try this at home

[not much dif that bdubs car after he did at least some of the mods that undo the detuning toyota did for 1992 and 1993 3vzfe, i say bdub because his car is on youtube and you can see it gets low 7.x 0-60 which is better than it was stock in 1993/1992 [upper 7s] and he doesn't even shift at high rpm nor does he launch as hard. i think my software doesn't realize the low and mid range torque is the same value, but i haven't adjusted for that [lazy] which actually might help 1st gear out a little bit, but hurt the launch [even worse tirespin].

Would be lovely, next, to calculate the difference if the car weighed a bit less and had the better final drive. Will keep you posted.
