Hi guys,

I just joined the forum and have been reading a lot of the posts here and learning quite a few things. I recently bought a 1998 ES300 automatic.

However last weekend I happened to misplace the one and only key that I have. It only came with the alarm/lock/unlock remote and the key itself.

Now because I don't have a key at all I cannot drive my car. I called Lexus and they told me for my situation I had to buy a new set of keys, a master key and duplicate and then pay for the labor to program the keys which could take an hour or two.

The best part is it would cost me $700 total!

They say each key is $95 plus tax and the labor is around $550 an hour.

Of course I am just a student and I am in no shape to pay such an amount.

Can you experts give me the best advice on what to do? I am sure this is not a new story and you probably might have seen others ask this question. I found several threads in fact these two:

But I need to be clear on what to do. Some of those threads are old and the methods may not work anymore.

What should I do? Buy a key for $100 and find instructions to program it thereby avoiding the $500 or $600 price tag?

Should I find a cheaper Lexus dealership because I just cannot program a new spare key myself?

PLEASE HELP ME BECAUSE NO CAR MEANS I CANNOT GET AROUND...AND I AM MISSING OUT ON MY CLASSES.

but the rest, why would that matter, i would do some rearch, then once that is exchausted come on here. but you are not me; you're lazier LOL good luck

Yes man dont pay Lexus any of that labor , you just follow the tutorial on that first link worked for me and buy your key from here :

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214082 search for your key and fax them your licence and registration and they will make and ship the key to you and then you can program it yourself If not call them and get a price

I'm pretty sure that since you don't currently have a programmed key you won't be able to program one if you order it.

You just need your key cut and you can program the fob yourself.
