Screeching noise when I turn on A/C
Okay, I hope someone here can help me out as I drive this car on a daily basis.
Whenever I turn the A/C on, there is a screeching noise. I just changed the alternator belt, but I didn't change the other drive belt. This noise usually comes on when I am driving over 40mph, mostly on the freeway. The noise will stop screeching when I push the "A/C" button off with the air still blowing (making it hot air). As soon as I push the "A/C" button back on, it starts making the noise.
I called Westside Lexus and they told me it could either be a belt, A/C clutch or the car possibly needs more freon? The A/C still blows cold when it is on.
Any help would definitely be appreciated as it will start getting hot over here in Houston. Thanks fellas.

more or less freon shouldn't matter.
or else all cars who have more or less freon will make sounds.
ac clutch, not likely...
tell you what, in the past before you change your belt did it make sounds when you turn on the ac?
i'm guessing NO?
you changed the belt?
heres the problem,
tighten it a little more, it may look like it tight but you have to make it really firm and tight as possible.
so here what i suggest...
tighten up the belt a little more,
then turn on your car with the ac
and if no sound at idle or 40mph
your good.
and if your sound goes away a little, then tighten it up some more.

Man, I still have tightened the belt, does the belt get damaged if I left it screeching too long? It seems like it'll go away temporary.
It still usually only goes on whenever I drive over 40mph. Right when I turn off the A/C button the sound disappears instantly. I've driven 80 mph with the A/C button off, but the air still running and no noise. Can someone help me? Thanks.

did u or did u not tighten the belt?
is it an old belt or new?
if tightening it wont help, and if you have an old belt, replace it.
otherwise it could be something else.
and yes it can cause damage to your ac compressor,

I have the same issue happening; it's outside the car (of course) that I hear the screeching sound when the AC is on. I have done very little work to the car as it's my wife's car, so if anyone has details as to how I can figure out which belt is the issue or how to tighten it, I'd appreciate it. The noise doesn't go away completely when the AC is off by the way...still hear something but it's not that bad.
