Default ABS Light On

Hi,

I have 95 ES w/ a 125K miles on it. Recently the ABS light comes on 'ocassionaly' when the cars has been sitting over night. It doesn't happen everyday, and when it does, if I restart the car after 10 minutes of driving, the light ALWAYS goes away and stays away until the car sits for a long period of time (more than 5 hours?). Any clues to what my problem might be?

Thanks...

Cool

When you hook it up to a scanner, or trigger the ABS ECU to flash it's code.
My thought is whatever the computer is telling you there's a problem is will be the problem.

Short Tc & E1 with a wire, or paperclip. The ABS light will flash the stored ABS codes.

It's most likely going to tell you a wheel speed sensor is bad, or the wiring to one is bad.

Quoting the FSM
DTC: 31,32,33,34
Detection of any of conditions (1) through (3):
  1.
    1. At vehicle speed of 10 km/h (6 mph) or more, pulses are not input for 5 sec.
    2. Momentary interruption of the vehicle speed sensor signal occurs at least 7 times in the time between switching the ignition switch ON and switching it OFF.
    3. Abnormal fluctuation of speed sensor signals with the vehicle speed 20 km/h (12 mph) or more.
Momentary interruption of the vehicle speed sensor signal occurs at least 7 times in the time between switching the ignition switch ON and switching it OFF.
Trouble Area:
  • Right front, left front, right rear and left rear speed
    sensor.
  • Open or short in each speed sensor circuit.
  • ECU
DTC 35:
Vehicle speed sensor signal is not input for about 1 sec. while the left front and right rear vehicle speed sensor signals are being checked when the IG switch is turned ON.
Trouble Area:
  • Open in left front, right rear speed sensor circuit.
  • ECU.

HINT: DTC 31 is for the right front wheel speed sensor.
DTC 32 is for the left front wheel speed sensor.
DTC 33 is for the right rear wheel speed sensor.
DTC 34 is for the left rear wheel speed sensor.
Fail safe function: If trouble occurs in the speed sensor circuit, the ECU cuts off current to the ABS control

I have codes 31,32,35,36. 35 and 36 say open in circuit, could that simply mean you have a bad speed sensor. I tried testing the sensor w/ my greenlee ohmmeter and had mixed results, nothing determined by this test.

ALSO, if it is a wheel sensor, when i replace that sensor, will the trouble code for that specific wheel go away immediately?
