2000 ES Trunk Release ??
Hello, a buddy of mine bought a 2000 ES300 recently and the trunk switch doesn't appear to be working, both the switch in the glove box and on the key.
He can open it with a key, just not with the remote locking devices. The door locks do work
Any ideas what might cause that problem?
Another odd thing happened today. We were looking for the interior air filter and the radio cut out and went to static for about 5 minutes. Finally after turning everything off for a couple minutes the radio came back. Weird.

The response above should answer your first question.....the glovebox button is actually a security feature to lock the trunk.
As for the radio. Were you listening to a CD, or radio? This happened to me a while back; it seems the factory player doesn't like certain brands of burned CD's for some reason. First time it happened to me I was ready to cry.....until I changed discs and it was perfectly fine.

Thanks. I'll have him try that today. Any ideas on the remote trunk release on the key not working? Is that also blocked by the switch in the glove box?
As for the radio issue. We were listening to FM. I was in the passenger seat leaning down into the drivers footwell looking for the cabin air filter. All of a sudden the receptoin went to Zero. We shut the radio off and on a few times, shut off the car, etc... A couple minutes later I turned off the car, and with the radio off I turned on the car, then the radio and all was well.
He also had a problem this week where the battery drained to nothing in one day sitting at work. The battery is/was 7 years old. I checked it last night and it was reading 12v. When the car was running it was readnig 14.4v. I disconnected the battery and tested to see if there was any dark circuits running. I could detect maybe a tiny one at .002v but it flickered on and off, so I don't belive it was there.
We put a new battery in it last night, hopefully that cures that particular problem.

Yes, the glovebox switch totally disables all trunk access with the exception of using the key itself......
As for the battery: does he have an aftermarket audio system in it??...I've had this problem as a result of the constant draw my aftermarket amp is taking from the battery. Fortunately it only happens in cold weather, so I just take my subs/amp out of the car for the winter as I don't really use them much at this time of year anyway.....that's my only thought. Other than that, I have no clue.....

Nope. All factory. We looked under the dash and under hood for an alarm or other non factory wiring. He got the car off Ebay and was sold by a broker, so the previous owner is unkown. We didn't see anything that was not factory.
When I tested the battery I disconnected the power lead, then ran my multitester between the disconnected lead and the battery. If there is a black current (one that is on always regardless of key position) I should have seen in in the meter. I saw that minimal and inconsistent .0002v, but I don't think it was anything.

My trunk popper stopped working about a month ago. My key switch doesn't open it nor the button inside the car. Not sure what this could be, maybe a blown fuse but I just haven't had time to look into it. As of now I'm also just using my key.
