Default Help with rear view mirror wiring 13 Es300h

Looking thru all the threads, and doing key word search does not seem to help me. I am trying to use the rear view mirror wiring to power up my ValentineOne. The wire colors are Red Greg (what looks like grey), Black/White, Black, and Blue.
I assume the Blue is ground and tried wiring with the black/white or the grey or the red for power and nothing worked. I am beginning to think it is the Valentine but I have had it for over 10 years and it worked with my BMW and Infiniti G37Sport.
Help!

I believe that these wires are for the garage door switches built into the mirror. I would think that if you could find the one 12v power line and a ground, you're downtown...?

The good news is that I have a voltmeter (cheap). I thought I was supposed to touch the two leads and adjust the resistance before starting.
Embarrassed, but can you give me a quick and dirty on how to use the volt meter to find the 12V supply? The leads are too thick to poke in the plastic assembly (a second issue).
Appreciate your hand holding. Bothers me I have to ask.

where does the mirror harness unplug? you could unplug the harness and see which wire is hot there.

Set your meter to read DC voltage which would be indicated as a straight line on the meter or just say "DC".
The AC setting would be a wavy line. The ground (negative) lead is black and the "hot" (positive) lead is red. Try what MSPEARL said, by touching the various holes or plugs in the unplugged harness to the mirror using both leads. If and when you see a +12 to 14 volt reading on your meter you have succeeded in becoming an amateur electrician. BTW the ignition should be on for this test. Regarding the probes being too thick, you can always wrap thinner wires around them and use them as leads. GOOD LUCK!
