yes, disc grinder, or jig saw with metal cutting blades. whatever you need to cut the thick solid axle. Key is to cut it real close to both side of the carrier so that once cut, you can see and remove the hidden screw. Once done cutting, everything else is easy. it sounds difficult only because we don't have much space when we get under there with jack stands.
