Default Headlight not staying on

My parent's 07 ES350 is a mass. It's got "Check VSC", Engine and tire pressure warning lights on for no apparent reason starting last week. But most critically, headlights are keep turning off automatically. When lights are first turned on, light would stay on for few minutes and then main beam would just turn off, sometimes just one side and sometimes both sides for no reason. Other lights including foglights, side marker, dash lights all stay on. Turning lights all off and back on will bring back the main beams but they won't stay on for too long. Btw, it's the HID type. I don't think stalk switch is bad nor the light sensor on the dash. May be the HID ballasters are bad? Overheating? but both at the same time on a 3 years old car with just 60K miles? Is there an ECU that controls the mainbeam? Is this a known problem? Quick search on "headlight issue" didn't turn up anything.

Warranty is over but isn't this a major safety issue that Lexus should take care of it?

If I were as sick, as this car seems to be, I'd go see a doctor.

If you don't want to go straight to the dealership, stop by any
auto parts store - they would read the trouble codes for free.
If it's something you can replace yourself (like some easy plug-in
electric stuff) they'll be happy to sell it to you.

This is why I opted for the Lexus Platinum Warranty, esp on 2007 models. Got a feeling his problems are going to be expensive...

The HID bulbs in some of the Toyota/Lexus cars seem to be failing prematurely. Just google "Prius headlamp failure". My '07 ES350 HID bulbs failed after less than 2 years of ownership, and I normally drive during the daytime. New bulbs are about $100 on ebay and $150+ mail order from various Lexus dealers you can find on the 'Net. Fortunately, my dealer replaced them for free under warranty. Have your parents take it in to the dealer.
