Beep/Chime in Route Guidance
Just purchased my first Lexus ES 350. When using the navigation system there is an annoying beep or chime prior to every direction (turn, exit, etc.) the guidance system says. Does anyone know of a way to make it go away. In the info screen there is a beep on/off but it seems to have no effect. It's driving me crazy. I just want to hear the directions.
Thanks for any help

I find the chime to be very annoying. By the time it sounds, it is too late to switch lanes to make the turn. Even if you are in the right lane, it will sometimes chime in when right at the turn. I wish you could adjust the how frequent the nav system gives directions to you too.

Not sure about your guys' priorities, but the nav system wasn't quite at the top of my deal makers/breakers when choosing cars. German cars continue to have systems far inferior to those of Japanese cars as well as 3rd party setups. That said, I'm fine with the way Lexus systems work--I do have quick reaction times, so the beeps and notifications come at the right time for me. My map's out of date, though.

I think there is no way to "disable" the chime/beep w/o winding up "disabling" the voice guidance as well; the closest you can get to disabling the chime would be to lower the chime volume to 0, but that would effectively lower the guidance voice to 0 as well...which won't work since you stated that you wanted to be able to hear the directions.

The voice recognition is poor and the tone does always seem to come on too late to actually make the turn for me, too. I actually miss the OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation in my previous car. The tone to make a turn was always dead-on accurate and the voice recognition worked consistently. Even though it didn't have an LCD screen it was far more usable. Plus the system would read the name of the street aloud as well. GM still has Toyota beat in this area IMHO.
