almost every dealer's way of "asking for the sale" is to ask for your CC number. That is enough for them to hold the exact car you want and even prep it for delivery the day you come in so you can drive off with it the same day. I did that for one of my dealer's that agreed to $35.9 but I had to cancel. The dealer I bought from beat him to $35.5k and told me that maybe if his manager might go lower to $35k. It ended up that $35.5k was definitely the best they could do, and it was more than good enough for me.

Well during negotiations a little goofup occured. On the phone the dealer asked "any trade in?" I said nope. (Why? The car is a 94 540i with 140k and in pristine condition except for the tranny. I was previously offered $700 by another dealer. I told him even of I crashed the car into a tree the parts on it would be worth more than that! That V8 engine alone is a gem.)

At the dealership we were asked again and my dad replied "well, maybe." MISTAKE. I know not to do that because what happens is the dealer takes your car like a hostage. They say OK; if you don't want a trade-in this is the best we can do. But if you gimmie that trade-in I will do this number. A whole arguement of course ensued because I came to a number on the phone WITHOUT trade-in. They should have gone even lower with the trade-in but they wouldn't. It ended up $35.5 for the car and $3k for the trade-in. Well like I said in the end we fared very well, we got the other car off our hands and I think we literally squeezed every penny out of the deal.
