Foot Well Light
I noticed for the first time tonight that the foot well light on my ES350 does not turn off. When the door is opened, the light starts out bright. It then gets dim once the car is put in gear; but it never turns off completely.
Is this normal? I have to think that it is based upon the fact that the light dims when the tranny is put in gear. I noticed in the manual that this is a customizable feature, but I'm not interested in turning it off completely under all circumstances. I just want the light to come on when the doors are opened, but to turn off all the way when the car is put in gear.
Any thoughts? Tony

This auto dimming feature for the door courtesy light is nothing new for the ES. It works on the overhead dome light, ignition switch light and the door lights on all ES's.

my 02 has done this. I grew to like this feature very much.
It comes in handy when you drop change, your cell phone or anything else at night and you got to find it. (of course you pull over first ).

Thanks for the feedback.
Just to be clear, I am NOT referring to the door courtesy light. I am referring to the foot well light specifically.
This light dims when the transmission is put in gear. But it never turns all the way off.
It is NOT tied to the dimmer for the dash lights. I tried that and the foot well light does not change.
If this is normal, I'm cool with it...I'll just have to get used to the feature. Thanks, Tony

I was talking about the small lights up under the dash that illuminate the top of you sneakers.

I noticed it for the first time this morning. With the headlights on and the car in gear they dim but do not go out. I have not checked to see if they are also on when the headlights are off. With the dark gray all weather mats it is barely noticable.
