Rough idle in park, but only when parked on an incline!
1992 ES300
My driveway has an incline, and then it's flat at the top. If I park my car anywhere on the hill with the front higher than the back of the car (in park), it runs very rough, idles down to about 400 RPM's, and kind of surges up to about 1100 RPM's to keep itself running, over, and over. I also heard a slight tick/knock from outside when the RPM's were down. The car runs awesome, no check engine light, and no problems at all as long as it isn't in park on an incline. I can't come up with anything. Any ideas. I can deal with it I guess because it never runs rough in gear, I'm just kind of wondering if it's leading up to anything.

either you are getting too much air into the system, and running lean, or you are not putting the correct octane of gas in... don't know about the incline thing, how steep is it?
if you are knocking, might be the octane
if you are knocking, might be the octane

Since the gas tank is in the back of the car the fuel has to be pumped all the way to the front. A slightly clogged fuel filter can cause this problem, or a fuel pump that doesn't have enough pressure to sustain the required pressure.

I run 93 octane. The only thing I could think of was the fuel pump not being strong enough too, but I kind of talked myself out of it, since there isn't any problems when I'm driving up hills much steeper than my driveway. The incline is only about 20 degrees probably. I guess it is possible though. I'll get a new fuel filter, and see what happens after that. I never thought of that possibility. Thanks guys.

Did the fuel filter fix your problem? Mine does this too when I am parked on an incline. I have a 92 ES300. I know this has been a while, let me know, I am at richman9@hotmail.com.
