Default Hood latch won't latch!

Hello all I've done a search on this topic but can only seem to find threads in the GS forum. I have a 1997 ES300 and the hood won't latch all the way it will latch only on the secondary/backup latch, any tips and/or tricks to get it working again?

Hate to say it, but itll only work for so much longer. The latch will have to be replaced again eventually

How do you figure that if it just needed lubrication? All the parts work so nice and smooth now

I had an 01 ES300 and 02 GS300 both of which had the issue and wd-40, kroil, ect. only works for so long. It'll be at the worst possible time too, like after an oil change or before checking the fluids before a long trip.

Good to know. I've experienced this on a family member's vehicle and also noticed that the latch needed periodic lubrication. I wonder what causes this problem.

02 ES300. Hood down and locked. Inside lever pull to full up position, no release. With inside lever full up I put my index finger on top of cable near lever attachment and pulled down. Hood released. Removed hood latch for inspection. Had someone actuate inside lever while I inspected it. Found cable had full movement and it was attached to the lever mechanism which moved with pull of cable. Can't see any other inside movement other than cable moving the lever it attaches to. Entire latch assembly needs replacing is best guess. Anyone else with same problem ?
